Open Educational Resources: A Quick Guide

What are Open Educational Resources?

The Creative Commons defines OER as: "teaching, learning, and research materials that are either (a) in the public domain or (b) licensed in a manner that provides everyone with free and perpetual permission to engage in the 5R activities."

Why Choose OER?  Both you and your students benefit!

1) A 2021 survey that included 829 students across 14 VCCS institutions found that more than 30% of students reported the cost of required course materials had led them to drop a course, withdraw from a course, or earn a poor grade.

2) Instructors consistently report that the ability to customize course materials results in the design of more effective course materials.
